About Us

Who We Are

Drink Less for Your Breasts is a bold, equity-driven campaign to confront one of the most underrecognized public health threats facing women today: the link between alcohol and breast cancer.

Launched by the Public Health Institute (PHI) and supported by the U.S. Alcohol Policy Alliance (USAPA) and a broad network of state coalitions, the campaign exists to inform, empower, and protect. It is the only campaign of its kind focused on reaching women across the U.S. with life-saving, science-based information—and transforming awareness into long-lasting policy change.

Our two-pronged strategy combines:

Campaign

A national media and storytelling campaign to elevate the science and give voice to women’s lived experiences with alcohol, health, and prevention.

Advocacy

A state-level advocacy initiative that supports coalitions working to advance alcohol cancer-warning label legislation, starting with 5–8 lead states.

Together, these efforts are designed to shift social norms, reduce preventable harms, and ensure that no woman is left in the dark about the cancer risks of alcohol.

Our Core Partners

Public Health Institute (PHI)

One of the largest and most innovative public health nonprofits in the U.S., PHI serves as the campaign’s backbone organization. With over 50 years of experience advancing health equity, PHI brings:

Strategic and operational leadership

Deep communications, media, and evaluation capacity

National networks in women’s health, cancer prevention, and substance use policy

PHI previously launched the original Drink Less for Your Breasts campaign in California with funding from the California Breast Cancer Research Program. The campaign reached more than 500,000 people, earned international media coverage, and received overwhelming public support.

U.S. Alcohol Policy Alliance (USAPA)

USAPA is the nation’s premier advocacy organization focused on evidence-based alcohol policies. USAPA:

Provides technical assistance and strategic coaching to state partners to pass and implement proven alcohol control laws

Connects researchers, policymakers, and grassroots advocates to accelerate change

Translates research to practice for on-the-ground action

Through this campaign, USAPA will guide and support the state-level push for alcohol warning label legislation focused on cancer risk.
